Slow bread,
made by hand.

A tiny neighbourhood bakery in Alfama. We mill our own flour, ferment for 48 hours, and bake in a wood oven every morning before sunrise.

Our story

A bakery the size of a living room

Levain started in 2014 with one wood oven, one long table, and a stubborn belief that bread needs time. We still mill our flour on site and ferment every loaf for two days.

There's no app, no delivery, no queue system — just a small counter in Alfama, a handful of regulars, and whatever came out of the oven that morning.
